Some stories from the gospels:
The rich young ruler— when asked how to receive eternal life, Jesus tells the man to sell what he has and give it to the poor. In response to a direct question about salvation, Jesus did not say anything about praying a little prayer. I like to point this out to people who are fond of saying, “The Bible clearly says...”
The woman taken in adultery— she never verbally repents or asks for forgiveness, but Jesus forgives her anyway.
The Good Samaritan— it is hard for us to understand how much people hated the Samaritans. I have tried to explain it to Fundies/evangelicals by comparing the Good Samaritan to a transgender, pot-smoking abortion doctor (although just comparing him to a liberal would probably be more shocking to them!)
