The news reported that two guys in two different local suburbs died shoveling snow this weekend.

I'd look into a snow-removal service. Paying them might actually be cheaper than buying a snowblower, and you wouldn't have to store the thing.

Bean, if it snows enough to use a snowblower 15 times and you don't have a snowblower, you will be one unhappy camper.

If it doesn't snow enough even once and you have a snowblower, you will be unhappy that you didn't get to play with your toy.

It is much better to have a toy and not play with it than to need a toy and not have it. If you get it and don't need it this year, you will eventually need it. It will pay for itself eventually.

I say buy it. The thing about paying someone to move your snow is that it gets done on their time, not yours. You might need your driveway cleared well before the plow truck gets there. Also, if you need to be plowed 15 times that might just be more than $600. You'll have your driveway cleared and be out the $600+ but you'll go through that money again next year. A snowblower is both a toy and a worthwhile investment, unlike a Corvette.

Upstate NY here. Love my snowblower. Yes, I CAN shovel my driveway & sidewalks, but it's so much faster & easier with the snowblower.

And I have a little one with a rubber auger. Works great, even for the banks the plow trucks leave at the end of my driveway.

I'd say buy it, if not this year then next, unless you have vague plans of moving to warmer climes.

I would also caution against moving less just because it is cold. I don't see how anyone can die from shoveling snow unless that happens to be the high point in their year's physical activity. Don't be a hero, obviously. Take an honest look at your physical condition and do a little or a lot to keep from dying so easily (no guarantees, I know, but there is a pretty clear correlation between moving your body and the ability to move your body safely).
